As the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, we support our students in gaining practical experience within public institutions. In this regard, our compulsory internship program aims to enable students to transform their theoretical knowledge into practice, observe the functioning of public institutions firsthand, and develop their professional skills.

The compulsory internship program is conducted in accordance with the Implementation Principles and Guidelines of the ASBU Department of Political Science and Public Administration Internship Course. The program is carried out as part of the compulsory course titled POLS431 Applied Political Science and Public Administration, which provides students with practical experience in areas such as public administration, local government, social policy, disaster management, and institutional administration. Each student’s internship process is carefully monitored and evaluated by the Departmental Internship Committee and the Internship Coordinator.

To ensure that students carry out their internships in a qualified and efficient manner, our department has signed official cooperation protocols with several institutions. Students enrolled in the POLS431 course complete their semester-long internships in these partner institutions, determined by a draw, with full insurance coverage. While the number of protocol institutions is expected to increase in the coming years, the current partner institutions are as follows:

Ankara Governorship
Turkish Red Crescent, Ankara Branch
Vocational Qualifications Authority (MYK)
Altındağ Municipality
Ministry of Interior, Research and Study Center (AREM)

In addition, our department encourages students to actively utilize the opportunities offered by the National Internship Program, coordinated by the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Human Resources Office (Kariyer Kapısı). Internships obtained through this platform are recognized within the scope of the compulsory internship course, provided they meet the department’s criteria. This allows our students to gain a wide range of experiences in both public institutions and the private sector.

Within the scope of the POLS431 course, students prepare two written works: a comprehensive analytical report evaluating the institution where they intern, and a policy-oriented research paper focusing on a specific topic related to that institution. Through these assignments, students develop their ability to critically assess institutional practices and analyze public policy processes within an academic framework. These studies concretely support the internship program’s objective of integrating academic knowledge with field experience.

Below are sample project and assignment titles prepared by our students as part of the POLS431 Applied Political Science and Public Administration course. In line with our commitment to confidentiality, only the year, institution, and title of the work are shared.
